
An ancient lime stone quarry in the beautiful country of Dalarna has in a few years developed a reputation as one of the most beautiful and thrilling stages in the world for opera and other musical events. The very first concert was held in 1993. Now people come in thousands to get the unique, magic experience of music and drama, combined with breathtaking nature. In Dalhalla, Sweden has established a unique festival stage of international repute with exceptional acoustical qualities, fully comparable to the best outdoor stages in Europe. Dalhalla presents 20-30 events each summer, from the beginning of June to the beginning of September. Opera, choir- and jazz concerts are popular concerts.

The ice hotel is Kiruna’s biggest tourist attraction. This hotel, totally built in ice and snow, is unique in the world and worth to visit. It is situated in the village Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. Admire the beautiful ice rooms, ice bar, ice church,… created by the world’s best architects and artists.

Järvzoo is a zoological park exhibiting only Nordic animals and birds. By walking on a wooden walkway (the longest in the world!) you cross the park and you feel like in real nature. It’s nice to make a long walk through this part of nature and realise all those animals are living for real in Sweden. The animals are exhibited in enclosures with a similar natural environment as they are used to live in.

The visit of the Kiruna Iron Ore Mine is really impressive. The visitor see a still operating mine, which is the biggest iron ore mine in the World. The tour starts with a slide show and a film in a modern multimedia auditorium. Then the visitors mine 540m below surface is entered by bus. The so called InfoMine is located above the present production level, which is between 775m and 1045m. The different mining technologies used at Kiruna are explained. Mining started at Kiruna as an open-pit mine, but in the 1960s it went underground. The tour also includes a mining museum, which offers a look back on the mine"s history.

This little mountain of 370 metres high in Järbo contains everything necessary to fully enjoy of a day of skiing. There are 15 descents (not too difficult) and 5 lifts and the region provides about 1000 beds spread in different hotels and apartments. The place is open from November till the beginning of April and about 70 employees are working there to satisfy the customer’s needs.

Siljan is the largest freshwater lake in the province of Dalarna and the seventh largest one in Sweden. It is 36 km long and 25 km wide and has a surface area of 290 square km. It is situated in one of the most beautiful areas in Sweden, characterised by a lot of craters who have been formed due to a meteorite impact 360 million years ago. Shallow waters with a fine, sandy bottom – small bays – long beaches – there are many varied swimming places to choose from. Soon after the New Year, Siljan freezes over for approximately four months. May 7th is traditionally the date when the ice begins to break up. Lake Siljan is really a tourist attraction and as a consequence a lot of organisations offer a lot of activities like golf, boat trips, sport accommodation,…

The rocky coastline of Sweden is dotted with thousands of small islands, some green and lush, others craggy and barren. There are five main archipelagos on the eastern and the western sides of the country, particularly around Gothenburg and Stockholm.

Uppsala is a city in central Sweden, located about 70 km north of Stockholm. It is the fourth largest city in Sweden. This beatiful city is Sweden"s ecclesiastical centre, being the seat of Sweden"s archbishop since 1164. Uppsala is famous for its university, the oldest still existing in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, founded in 1477! The city is dominated by the Domkyrka, Scandinavia"s largest cathedral, which is visible from most parts of the town. The old city with it"s parks and river views makes it really worth to visit.

Vargas is one of the outstanding and almost untouched parts of Hälsingland where you could it hasn"t been explored yet. This place "in the middle of nowhere" offers a capacity of 24 beds in little wooden houses. You can enjoy a nice boot trip, fishing or having a sauna with view on the splendid lake. But the main reason to visit this place is the chance to see bears. The owner is a very experienced "bear watcher" and together with him, you can go into the forest and try to find bears...
